While the staff and the nurses have been largely kind and sweet (except for the ultrasound tech who kept pushing christianity and “natural remedies”, to supposedly cure tachycardia because medicine and science is apparently ineffective and only natural remedies will work, while doing my girlfriend’s exam— maybe don’t do that!) it has been the absolute worst experience seeing the cardiologists here at Cardiovascular Institute of America, ESPECIALLY the last phone call. And to the disgrace of a doctor and person Muthu Velasamy who we had the utmost displeasure of speaking for the first (and last) time on Tuesday, and who spent barely even five minutes on a call with her— WITHOUT even listening to what she had to say, not even letting her get a word in— just to berate and dismiss my girlfriend that her problems are because she is “young and emotional” and that if she “is going to ask for a referral or prescription, don’t bother because I’m not going to.” and CANCELLING our follow up appointment with Melody White (that Melody herself specifically wanted us to inform her of the results of the MRI, to go over her MRI results that are supposed to SHOW WHETHER OR NOT SHE IS HAVING SEIZURES BECAUSE SHE IS PRONE TO RANDOMLY FAINTING FOR MINUTES AT A TIME because its, you know, pretty concerning to be randomly fainting for any amount of time much less up to SIX MINUTES! for somebody who is supposedly “normal” and “young” and “healthy”) because there’s apparently nothing wrong with her and implying she is just being dramatic and drug seeking and then hanging up.. What is your problem? Nobody wants to be sick. Nobody wants to take medication (and mind you, she HAS NOT taken the medication that she was prescribed by the first cardiologist Melody White because she has asthma and an inhaler, and THE NUMBER ONE WARNING with propranolol is to NOT TAKE IF YOU USE AN INHALER! Mind you she was prescribed 60mg of propranolol upon the first ever visit even when the cardiologist didn’t believe us that she has a problem with her heart, so they were prescribing medicine just to placate her when thats not what we wanted! And propranolol is a beta blocker which is VERY dangerous to just randomly discontinue after taking, ESPECIALLY if you have heart problems— which she DOES, and we have been told numerous times to casually discontinue taking it for various reasons.) She would love nothing more than to have her heart function like normal like everybody else. But fact of the matter is, is that it is NOT normal for your heart to go from 120bpm to 39bpm and back up to 100+ bpm within 3 minutes WHILE DOING NOTHING BUT SITTING OR LAYING DOWN! At ALL! It is NOT NORMAL to experience tachycardia and bradycardia simultaneously especially when NOT DOING ANYTHING STRENUOUS— OR ANYTHING PERIOD! And she isn’t doing months of physical therapy just for fun or giggles. We aren’t going to the emergency room just for a fun vacation. Getting pricked with needles is painful. Taking medications are scary. Her body is deteriorating so quickly in such a short frame of time, that even trying to go to the grocery store for a brief trip is too taxing on her heart and her body when just earlier this year our favorite thing to do was go on walks along the river together for hours, and she used to do dance and theatre and colorguard just a few short years ago too. But according to your negligent cardiologists, it’s “normal” and it’s impossible for her to have problems because she is “young”, and she is just being “emotional”. Because on the outside, everything looks fine. (Which mind you, Velusami was ALSO claiming her results were fine for TESTS SHE NEVER HAD and the nurse/front desk could be heard in the background correcting him that those tests were NEVER DONE on her, and he did not care and dismissed the nurse’s concerns.) They refuse to see past the surface, and refuse to acknowledge they’re either ignorant and biased or uneducated when it comes to dysautonomia or anything that is not a direct physical problem of the heart. We are only a few months into our frustrating journey of figuring out/confirming possible dysautonomia or POTs diagnosis (which her primary, PT, ortho, and every doctor and nurse in the ER that we have interacted with believe it to be) and I am so sick and tired of being brushed aside just because she is young and shouldn’t be experiencing any issues. Exactly! We are here because this SHOULDN’T be happening but IT IS and we are seeking answers! Not to have medications thrown at us just to shut us up— medications that could actively make her worse! They never listen to what she is going through and always just write her off. They always insist everything is “normal” even despite a less than 72 hour holter monitor reporting numerous sinus tachycardia events. Not that a 72 hour monitor is going to show much of anything anyways— every other medical professional we have informed about it has been absolutely baffled that it wasn’t at LEAST 7-14 days. They always claim her heart rate being high is normal because that’s what happens when anyone stands up or is doing physical activity. Completely ignoring the fact that she IS NOT doing any physical activity, just sitting or laying down when it happens, and glossing over that it is not normal to have such adverse reactions to simply standing. And is it seriously “normal” to nearly faint barely 2-3 minutes into a basic treadmill stress test? We have had multiple medical professionals shocked and appalled when we recount some of the things the two cardiologists have said and done— and what they HAVEN’T done as well. And the fact you have the audacity to write in your BS report that “all of the patients questions were answered” and that new/worsening symptoms were “discussed in detail” with the patient.. you are blatantly lying! You did not ONCE ever even ALLOW her to speak about WHY she was at the emergency room for her latest visit nor about a new concerning symptom she is experiencing. The moment she said she had booked this appointment to go over her recent emergency department visit, he cut her off and spat out that he “already knew all about it” and spent the entire rest of the call yelling at her, belittling and then cancelling her follow up appointment. But guess what? No longer is it just tachycardia, but bradycardia as well; her heart rate is dropping randomly to the 30s and 40s (despite years-long history of only tachycardia, never brady episodes) and skyrocketing within seconds to minutes later back up to 120-140+, and ping-ponging between them all throughout the day— REGARDLESS OF WHETHER SHE IS DOING ACTIVITY OR SITTING/LAYING DOWN! But you never even gave her the chance to tell you what is going on with her heart. Yet have the gall to state on official medical records that you supposedly listened to her and discussed things with her and went over new symptoms and concerns. What a joke! If you believe how you treated her wasn’t absolutely appalling, then why did you lie all over the report? You discussed nothing. What a horrible, disgusting, sorry excuse of a doctor. It was our utmost displeasure to come here. I wish we never did. It has been such a waste of our time, when we could’ve found a cardiologist and office that genuinely cares for her and wants to help us figure out what is going on with her and a way to help her. If you are a woman, especially a young one, I suggest staying far FAR away from this office lest they also gaslight and claim that you’re just being a “young” “emotional” girl, yell at you, and rudely and indirectly drop you from their practice for daring to try and figure out what is happening with your body even when you have never once asked for a medication prescription nor ever been anything but kind patient and sweet to their staff!

Dr. Velusamy is a wonderful and caring physician. He is very intellegent , gifted, and professional. I have been a patient for over five years and have been being treated for a plethora of vein and heart problems. Thankfully, Dr. Velusamy and his medical staff were/are able to diagnose and treat these issues. The non medical staff are friendly, precise, and professional. I am very blessed to have such a wonderful and caring medical practice to entrust my hearth/medical issues.
